On July 25, 2025, an important economic forum — the Turkmen-Japanese Business Forum — was successfully held at the National Pavilion of Turkmenistan within the framework of the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. This forum opened up broad opportunities for enhancing trade, economic, investment, industrial, and technological cooperation between the two countries.
The main goal of the forum was to expand relations in key areas such as trade, investment, industry, services, textiles, healthcare, education, and logistics, and to identify new avenues of collaboration between the public and private sectors. Following the official opening, representatives of Turkmenistan's ministries, state concerns, and business associations, along with representatives of major Japanese companies and organizations, delivered speeches. The presentations highlighted the current state of cooperation between the two nations, future prospects, and proposals for strategic directions.
The forum gathered a wide range of participants, including the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Textile Industry, the “Türkmenhimiýa” State Concern, the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs, and other key institutions, along with representatives from the private sector. From the Japanese side, leaders and representatives of globally renowned companies such as “JETRO,” “ROTOBO,” “ITOCHU,” “Sumitomo Warehouse,” “Masui Co. Ltd,” “Licox,” and “JPS Group” took part.
During the event, participants emphasized that elevating international cooperation to a new level is an essential factor for economic development. Discussions addressed a range of issues, including the implementation of new projects, ensuring investment security, and expanding export-import relations.
The forum also extensively explored possibilities for joint projects in sectors such as energy, transport and logistics, construction, industrial equipment, healthcare, textiles, and education. Additionally, the role of the private sector in promoting entrepreneurship and attracting investments was particularly underlined.
As part of the forum, participants visited the National Pavilion of Turkmenistan. Through the exhibitions, guests became acquainted with the history, cultural heritage, and economic achievements of the Turkmen people.
Mr. Hideki Sho, a representative of “JETRO,” emphasized that the Turkmen pavilion — with its unique architecture, impressive video displays, and an ethnic restaurant offering beloved national dishes — had gained great popularity and attracted the attention of the international community.
The Turkmen-Japanese Business Forum marked an important step in strengthening the friendly relations between the two countries and identifying new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation. This event stands as clear evidence of the successful implementation of Turkmenistan’s foreign economic strategy on the international stage.
